On Thursday, November 11th, 2021, I joined a group of strangers at the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station to embark on my first camping trip. This was a no-frills style of hiking with everything on your back over three days. This fit my style perfectly. I did learn about another style of hiking on this trip “Glamping” on this trip in which one hires a team to spoon-feed them a camping experience, but there was nothing glamorous about this one. On the contrary, it was painful and fraught with tears of many varieties, even a salty reservoir of utter joy.

The city sparrow I am, I have never had the opportunity to go camping before. This experience unearthed a new and seemingly infinite delight for me.

Our bus dropped us off right at the Yotvata Junction and we set up camp alongside the road to rest before our first 6am hike. Yotvata is just from the city of Eilat in the Negev desert of Israel and there we camped on the ground right outside the trail. On Friday November 12th, we hiked Wadi Yotvata…
